Redevelopment work to begin at Crowngate Shopping Centre

Crowngate Shopping Centre has announced that the exciting £1.5 million redevelopment of the Angel Place entrance of Friary Walk will begin in early March.

The renovation of Crowngate’s Friary Walk entrance is due to start in a few weeks time, with proposed completion in autumn 2019. Following investment from the shopping centre’s owner, The Crown Estate, the updates will include new windows and a modernised entrance at Angel Place.

Mike Lloyd, Centre Manager at Crowngate Shopping Centre, explains that the refurbishment will create a better shopping environment while complementing the traditional heritage of the city centre. “We are absolutely thrilled that work to upgrade the external areas of Friary Walk will be underway shortly.

“The investment helps to showcase Crowngate as a destination that continues to attract established brands and independent operators, as well as being a venue which people enjoy visiting.

“It will open additional doors in terms of potential new businesses, which will increase employment and boost the local economy.”

Midlands-based construction company, adi Building & Refurbishment – part of the adi Group – has been appointed to carry out the redevelopment, which will welcome a workforce comprising over 15 people from Worcestershire and neighbouring counties for the 26-week project.

David Beebee, Managing Director at adi Building & Refurbishment, said: “We are delighted to work with The Crown Estate and Crowngate Shopping Centre to deliver a scheme that will contribute to the continuing redevelopment of Worcester City Centre. We look forward to bringing our construction and refurbishment expertise to enhance the experience of visitors to the shopping centre.”

In the past year, Iceland has also received a full renovation. In addition to this, Crowngate has welcomed new stores including Bargain Buys, The Perfume Shop and Oasis, alongside independent stores including Monkee Business, 1st Class Turkish Barbers and A Write Card.

Mike Lloyd concluded: “This is an incredibly exciting time for Crowngate Shopping Centre, with so much on offer from our brilliant selection of stores to the family-based activities we host. The enhancement of the building will certainly help reflect our vision of becoming Worcester’s go-to for shopping, dining and entertainment.”
