Crowngate Shopping Centre is built close to the site of the Worcester Blackfriars Monastery which belonged to the Dominican Friary. Dissolved in 1538 nothing remains of the Priory although excavations did locate a Chapel which is why we retain the names Friary and Chapel to this day.
Worcester is also famous for its magnificent Cathedral, a short walk from Crowngate Shopping Centre, as well as being the home of world renowned Worcester Porcelain and birthplace of famous British composer Sir Edward Elgar.
